When Christopher Columbus spotted Caribbean Indians sleeping in cotton nets slung between trees, he thought it was such a good idea he adopted if for his crew. By 1600 hammocks were widely used in ships and sailors sometimes had to share a double one. The name, hammock is derived from the Spanish word hamaca. Wise old sailors still prefer to sleep in hammocks, even onshore, because they believe it is the most comfortable way to get a good night's (or day's) rest. With the same relaxing comfort, the hanging chair is strung on natural fibre rope from the stout spreader bar overhead, supporting seat and back with a padded navy blue candy-stripe cushion. Seat base hangs 1.35m below suspension ring. Max. weight 95kg.
