The perfect and original gift. Our native Hazel (corylus avellana) was one of the first trees to establish themselves after the last ice age. It forms a small (12m/39ft) often many stemmed tree. Hazelnuts are produced when the trees are planted in pairs, which makes an excellent engagement or wedding present. The Hazel is very impressive in late winter when it is draped in long yellow, "lambstail" catkins. It is widespread and happy in most situations.
