This beautiful four poster bed is taken from a Queen Anne design. It is hand built from quality hardwoods using many traditional techniques. There is detailed hand carving on the headboard and footboard with ball and claw traditional feet. The results are a very solid bed true to the original design and build techniques with classic features.
You will note that we have aded to the design with a solid roof upholstered in embroidered damask silk for the ultimate Queen Anne four poster
All our beds and furniture are made from professionally kiln dried mahogany to 8% there are different types of mahogany just as there different types of oak or pine for example you can expect far greater quality for E European oak as you would French oak. Our mahogany is from Dutch started renewable plantations using Swietenia Morphyllus mahogany saplings otherwise known as large leaf mahogany or most commonly Brazilian Mahogany. We do not use indigenous timber or inferior types of mahogany such as the khaya genus or Lauan (Philippine mahogany) etc.
In addition our beds have a unique intensive finish that takes over a week to complete which not only show cases the grain and character but provides a hard shell that helps protect the timber against dirt and moisture fluctuations causing splitting and warping. As you search websites selling mahogany furniture almost all that you will find is stained and waxed finish buffed to varying states of ‘doff’ or shine which takes a fraction of the time and cost. The result in comparison is a flat matt finish which does not seal the timber and will need to be maintained with regular beeswax and a generous amount of elbow grease!
This is what separates an Heirloom Bed and offers superior value through quality.

Like the Lits en Bateau this is a design that has been reproduced in varying ways and quality to help you see the differences we have listed them below.
Some are lighter in weight using less wood. The Heirloom Queen Anne is a very substantial reassuringly heavy and very solid bed.
Posts are often constructed using round dowels, square dowels would be better but this is more difficult and time consuming. Heirloom Beds use a 12mm narrow thread steel bolt on each post ensuring solid strong construction without movement.
