Franz Porcelain
Launched in 2002 by Francis Chen, Franz Porcelain is unique in that it combines the rich and
centuries old heritage of Chinese porcelain with Western artistry and historic styles.
The porcelain is made from the finest Chinese clay and decorated by talented artists using a
variety of traditional techniques including under and over glaze painting as well as coloured and
crystalline glazes. It’s a mix of old and new methods based on scholarly research carried out by
distinguished ceramicist, Chao Sun, and it gives Franz Porcelain its incomparable strength and
intrinsic appeal.
Nature — the beauty and fragility of flowers, the delicacy of insects and butterflies and the
flowing forms of birds and animals — is inspirational to Franz Porcelain’s sculptors. They’ve
merged their keenly observed images with the sinuous, organic lines and the vibrant colours
of the West’s famous Art Nouveau style and the result is imaginative, collectable and highly
functional porcelain for the twenty-first century home.
